Steve Cox Councilmember, Mexico Beach
Councilman Steve Cox joined the SASJBEP Policy Board in 2025 after choosing to serve in a role that aligned with his strong belief in caring for the environment. Cox saw the Estuary Program as a meaningful way to contribute thoughtful input and help move the program toward action. An avid fisherman, boater, and beachgoer, he feels a deep personal connection to the health of the watershed and bays and wants to help ensure they remain clean and vibrant for future generations. As growth continues across the region, he recognizes that maintaining water quality becomes more challenging and more important.
With a professional background spanning engineering to sales, Cox brings a logical, solutions-oriented perspective to the Estuary Program’s Policy Board. He values collaboration and appreciates working alongside others who share a genuine commitment to environmental stewardship. He is particularly interested in efforts focused on St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf Coast Canal.
Looking ahead, Cox hopes to see cleaner water and reduced sediment in the bay system over the next decade. He also hopes the community gains a greater understanding of how development impacts water quality and long-term environmental health. When he’s not working, Cox enjoys fishing, boating, and walking along the beach, especially at his favorite spots along Cape San Blas and Crooked Island Sound, places he describes as feeling like “another world.”
