Springfield Floodplain Restoration

Project Overview

 

This project will create preliminary design and engineering for the floodplain and stream restoration of the Upper Tributaries of Martin Lake. The CCMP highlights numerous actions that will be addressed by the project including the reduction of the quantity of stormwater, the restoration of ecosystem function, and the reduction of impacts from stormwater. This project will incorporate existing information into a community approved design that will enhance the flow and storage of water through the City of Springfield into Martin Lake.

Project Information

Contractors will create a 60% design and engineering plans of potential restoration actions focused on stream and floodplain restoration to reduce the flooding impacting these areas. This project is one of many steps toward ultimate restoration and then improvement of water quality, habitat restoration, and improved community resilience. Once reviewed and finalized, contractors will present to the City of Springfield Commissioners to determine a go/no-go on securing additional funding to move the project forward toward construction.

GOALS:

  • Survey the streams and their banks, drainage areas, culverts, and ditches.
  • Determine habitat needs and water flow
  • Identify areas for future stormwater wetland creation
  • Identify needs for dredging and streambank restoration
  • And many more!
